Welcome to the ninth annual Mercury Business Awards
The awards are all about celebrating success, whether yours is a one-man company or a mammoth in the business world. There are nine categories to enter this year, thanks to the generous support of our event sponsors.
The Mercury Business Awards will be held on Thursday, May 15, at the Greetham Valley Hotel, Golf and Conference Centre, in Wood Lane, Greetham.
New green award
A new Green Achievement award which will go to an organisation which has shown the greatest commitment in improving its carbon footprint. The category is sponsored by Princeenergy, part of the long-established Princebuild Group.
Princeenergy director, Mark Asplin, said he was particularly pleased to be able to sponsor the Green Achievement Award.
"Princeenergy are at the cutting edge of offering green energy solutions from solar panels to biomass heating and we are keen to support this excellent initiative in the Rutland and Stamford Mercury Business Awards," said Mr Asplin.
"Stamford and the surrounding area is becoming more and more environmentally focussed with regards to alternative sustainable fuels and energy conservation so this award category is so very relevant," he said.

Has your business been a roaring success in its infancy? Has it exceeded all your expectations or is it exactly on the right track, looking strong and with excellent prospects for the future? You may be a one-man band looking to expand, or you may have started at a larger scale and already proved your ideas would work. Open to companies in business for up to three years from the date of the launch of these awards (February 28, 2014).

This award will go to the organisation that can best demonstrate an ability to create, grow and develop innovations or processes that substantially improve the commercial performance or prospects of the company.
Business of the Year (Established)
This will be a business trading for more than three years with more than 25 employees that can show evidence of business growth, a commitment to the local community including job creation, a business strategy and vision for the next three to five years, proven success and achievement during the past two years, management with the ability to drive the business forward and a genuine commitment to staff.
Business of the Year (Small)
This will go to a small business trading for more than three years that employs between one and 25 people and which is able to demonstrate excellence and innovation in its field, management with the ability to drive the business forward, funding arrangements and investment plans for the business. It must show it understands its market, has arrangements to respond to change and can demonstrate and quantify why the business should win.

This award will recognise the firm that can prove it really does put the customer first. Has your business excelled to help one customer in particular or perhaps you have introduced new ways of working to help every customer who comes through the door?
Employee/Team of the Year
Sponsored by Ambitions Personnel.
This award is to celebrate dedication and commitment to the business. The title will go to the employee or team who always go the extra mile and exceed expectations. The judges will be looking for an employee or team who can demonstrate how their attitude, commitment and dedication to their job has delivered significant benefits to their organisation.

This is a new award for this year, which will go to the organisation which has demonstrated the greatest commitment to improving its carbon footprint. The judges will be looking at all areas of "green thinking" including waste reduction or recycling, alternative fuels, energy conservation and resource management.

This is a new award for this year, which celebrates the shops which make the Stamford and Rutland area special and will be judged on financial performance, product and store innovation as well as proven customer service.

This award is to recognise an exceptional individual whose effort and determination over time has made an exceptional contribution not just to the business but to the wider community.
