Boston Standard Sports Awards

Thursday 6th December 2012

Time to nominate for sporting achievement

Following the success of last year's inaugural event we're kicking off the Boston Standard Sports Awards 2012 alongside headline sponsor Oldrids & Downtown.

On December 6, we shall be hosting an evening at the Pilgrim Lounge which celebrates the finest moments of sporting achievements from this area.

And we are asking you, our readers, to decide who will be taking their places on the winners' podium. There will be 11 categories for you to vote on.

Sponsor's message

At Oldrids & Downtown, we are proud to be sponsoring this year's Boston Sports Awards and to be celebrating the dedication and achievements of local sportsmen and women.

In what has been an incredible year for British sport, we want to help shine a light on some really inspirational accomplishments that are happening right on our doorsteps. We hope that these local success stories, as well as those we have already seen on the national and international stages, will inspire, motivate and encourage people to get involved with sport in whatever way that they can.

It's also an opportunity to say thank you to all of those coaches and volunteers who give their time so generously in nurturing new talent and providing opportunities within our community for people to enjoy such a wide range of sports, both as spectators and as participants.

All in all, we feel that it is a fantastic opportunity to show our support and recognition of some extraordinary local people and to look forward to the year ahead and the potential for sporting achievement that it holds.

So if there's an athlete or team which you think have been a real knockout, tell us about them.

The competition welcomes nominations for any competitor or team in any sport but those nominated must either live in the Boston Standard's circulation area or compete for a team in our area.

  • Successes or events must have been achieved since January 1, 2012
  • The deadline to submit your nominations will be noon on October 26
  • Tell us who deserve the award and why in no more than 100 words.

To make a nomination, see the form in the Boston Standard.

Successful nominations will appear in the newspaper, where readers can vote for who they want to be crowned as champion.

Scoring will be first past the post, with winners earning a points victory.
